Adoption Program

The CAMI program is a licensed child placing agency in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. We are able to do homestudies for domestic and international adoptions and post-placement services for Kentucky families. Believing that the natural family is the first choice for children, we work to keep families together by providing advocacy and support services where we can. There are times, however, when a child can not be returned to the biological parent for any of a number of different reasons. While adoption is not our focus, it is something we do in order to be able to help some of the children from Guatemala and other countries. We believe in adoption as a way to make a forever family. We hope to be able to expand this program this year, although the state of adoptions from Guatemala is in a great flux at this time. With the implementation of the Hague rules later this year, adoptions as we know them from Guatemala will cease. Our children in foster care almost always have a family to return to in their homeland. These parents send their children to the U.S. in order to get them needed care that the parent can not provide. What a great heartache it must be to send your ill child far away and not be able to travel with them. Only in certain very difficult cases do the parents travel with the child. In all cases, a child in the medical program must return to their home country before any adoption issues can be addressed. They must be signed out of the medical program first.

There have been times when a normal healthy child has been brought to our group in Guatemala, and if the child is an orphan within the definition of U.S. immigration law, they are sometimes placed for adoption. Again, our focus is on humanitarian work. Please email if you have questions.
