HOW MAY I HELP?
We have needs both for the program abroad and for the office in Kentucky. The following links are the CAMI wish lists and this is just the beginning. If you can help in any way, please do so. All items can be shipped to the office in Bowling Green, KY. If you need a tax deduction notice, please advise us at the time. Also, it always helps if you will include a packing list in the top of the box. Most boxed things go by truck overland to Guatemala, and we have to list every item that is in each box. Thanks you for your help and please read the lists carefully, many items on the lists are very specific. We have had many people contact us after seeing pictures of some of the children we try to help, and ask what they can do. Many of you can not leave your homes to travel abroad, some may have small children at home, or have other family or work commitments, but you still want to help. Besides the need that we have always for people to help in the office and to pack supplies, we need people to help find the items on this list and get them to us. We also always need money for sponsorships for children for surgery. If you are sending money for a specific child, please let us know which one. If you would like for us to pick a child for you to sponsor, we will do that. You will be sent before and after photos and information on the child once the surgery is completed.
As with any non profit, we can only work with the supplies donated, volunteer time donated, and money that is donated. If you want to send a cash donation, please do so. 100% of every dollar that you donate will go to providing care for a needy child. NO ADMINISTRATIVE fees are taken from donations. Our volunteers all work together to obtain whatever funds are needed for our basic operational costs, and most often they come out of our volunteers' own pockets. All of our staff is volunteer....no one is paid for any work that is done here in the US. There are some times when we must add to our surgical teams abroad because we need extra help. At those times, we may have to pay a local person to get the help we need to make sure we are able to operate safely. Most of our help abroad is donated.
CAMI is a program geared not only to work with children who need surgical correction of medical problems, but we are also involved in a lot of hands on teaching abroad. We also work to improve the lives of some of the families that we come in contact with. That could range from helping to get them a regular cookstove, so their kids are no longer exposed to open fires to buying a couple of chickens so they can have eggs., all the while working to teach them a way to improve their daily lives. In addition, we work with cross cultural teaching in all areas of the medical field. We have students that travel abroad to learn, and hope we soon will have physicians traveling to the US for some extra training. In addition, each surgery that we do abroad is used as a teaching opportunity for physicians and staff abroad. |
